Explanation of Student Learning Outcome 1

The student will analyze critical thought, using the following criteria: clarity, precision, accuracy, relevance, significance, fairness, logic, depth, and breadth, evidentiary support, probability, predictive or explanatory power (National Council for Excellence in Critical Thinking, 2009):


Enabling Objectives for Outcome 1

1.1 The student will create arguments that are comprehensively described and well understood. The student will apply the same criteria to the arguments of others.

1.2 The student will systematically analyze arguments of self and others taking into account the context in which arguments are made.

 Skills to be taught in the freshman/sophomore courses:

Judge one’s own and others’ arguments (arguments are clear, precise,
